Cork is set to receive a significant boost to its fire services with a €19.4 million allocation from the National Fire Services Capital Programme. This massive investment, part of the State's largest ever funding for fire and emergency services, will see €13 million dedicated to a new fire station in Cork City West (Curraheen), €3.2 million for a new station in Dunmanway, and €3 million for Mitchelstown. Additionally, Crosshaven fire station is getting a €250,000 refurbishment. Cork’s fire brigades will also benefit from three new class B fire appliances, each valued at €500,000, for the county and one for the city.

This funding, running until 2030, aims to modernise infrastructure, upgrade equipment, and enhance training to meet future challenges. (Read More)

This €456m development, linking the N40 Bloomfield interchange to Barnahely and including the Ringaskiddy relief road, is set for completion by summer 2028. Bus Éireann has announced significant changes to its Cork services, affecting numerous routes including the 51, 220, 223, 245, and 260, due to ongoing protests and roadworks. Services are experiencing disruptions, delays, and diversions, with some routes unable to serve specific areas like Carrigaline and Ringaskiddy. Passengers are strongly advised to check the Bus Éireann website regularly for the latest updates, allow extra travel time, and be aware of potential changes to bus stop locations and timetables, which take effect from April 19. The City Council and NTA are launching 12 new mobility hubs in a pilot project to boost sustainable transport.
