Cork's New Bridges Get Their Names! 🌉
The naming of Cork City's two new bridges is complete, thanks to overwhelming public input! Following over 100 submissions, Cork City Council has formally christened the bridges with names that resonate with the city's history and cultural fabric. The bridge connecting Wandesford Quay to South Main Street via Lambley’s Lane will bear the name Cumann na mBan Bridge, honouring the impactful role of this Irish republican women's organisation. The second bridge, linking Proby’s Quay to South Main Street through the historic Beamish and Crawford brewery site, will be known as Sculptor Séamus Murphy Bridge, paying tribute to the renowned local artist. Cork Dragon Boat Challenge Races Back to the Lee! 🐉
Get ready for some splashy fun on the River Lee this Saturday, w! The annual Dragon Boat Challenge is back from 12pm to 4pm, featuring colourful 40ft dragon boats racing from Kennedy Quay to Lapp’s Quay. This popular event, running since 2013, is a fantastic fundraiser for Meitheal Mara, a charity dedicated to promoting maritime culture and skills. Sixteen Cork companies will battle it out for the Dragon Boat Challenge Trophy in a day filled with energy, teamwork, and friendly rivalry.
